Compact Disc. James T. How is data written to a CD? The surface of a CD is made of a polycarbonate layer with molded spiral tracks on the top. The data are stored on the CD as a series of minute grooves which are known as 'pits' encoded on these spiral tracks. The areas between the 'pits' are known as 'lands'. A CD burner is used to write burn the data on a CD. Is a CD rom a storage device?
CD - ROM. It functions as a compact disc that stores computer data of graphics, text, and audio. They are popular for software and other multimedia applications. CDRW, on the other hand, means compact disc-rewritable. It also holds a MB limit on its memory; however, it can be recorded on again.
It has to be wiped clean first before re-recording though. This makes it great for temporary data storage. CDRWs also need more sensitive laser optics in order to be read. They are somewhat outdated. Multisession means you can write on part of the disc at one time and another part at a later time.
