Having done some deliverance in the past I have dealt with "lesser and stronger" spirits. Some leave as soon as they are told and others will challenge your authority. They ALL have to leave but some will put up a fight. Why would Jesus say, " This kind " if there wasn't a difference?
Mar And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out? Mar And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
John only uses the term "evil spirit" in Revelation. In his gospel he only calls them demons. In Revelation he uses both demon and evil spirit. Rev With a mighty voice he shouted: "Fallen! They all have certain abilities and specialities, but they are all the same. This is merely a semantics issue. Jun 2, 4. The reason many do not believe is found in: 2 Cor In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. What happens when a person comes to Christ? Demons leave.
Sometimes they are cast out but mostly they leave at conversation without notice. When we force them out with great effort they come back. Matt When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
Jesus cast out unclean spirits: Mark And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, Mark And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, Luke And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.
Jesus gave us power over the devil and his spirits. Matt And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. The devil recognizes the power of Jesus. Mark And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God.
One of the characteristics of unclean spirits is sickness, not everything, it is usually something that is growing like cancer. A Christian can be sick from an unclean spirit but not possessed by a demon. Mark And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;.
Luke And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed. Some healed, some cast out. This shall be a statute for ever unto them throughout their generations. Deut KJV They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new [gods that] came newly up, whom your fathers feared not.

Hab KJV Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, And there is no breath spirit at all inside it. Why do OT and NT teachings on demons appear to differ? New Testament In the NT there is no substantial difference.
Old Testament But in the OT the two are distinguished.
