When you work as a FBI Behavioral Analyst, your primary job duty will be to work alongside domestic and international law enforcement officers to solve crimes. Once a crime has occurred, you will attempt to recreate a crime scene for information gathering, and then will use this information to create a psychological profile of potential suspects. These profiles allow law enforcement officers to identify and apprehend dangerous criminals.
For instance, if you work for the counterterrorism section of the BAU, your job task will be anticipating terrorist threats. Instead, they work with records compiled by the officers and detectives investigating the crime, searching for behavioral details that may develop into a signature that helps to identify the criminal.
This is done by carefully examining evidence left by behaviors and back-fitting possible antecedents. In the Metesky case, for example, the attention to detail evidenced in bomb construction led directly to the prediction of a meticulous nature and anticipation of the neatly buttoned suit the bomber would be wearing. Short of directly identifying the perpetrator, the behavioral analysis that is worked up can assist in identifying the most likely victim profile so that people that fit the profile can be warned.
The popular conception of behavior analysts working in criminal justice focuses almost exclusively on the work of behaviorists analyzing specific, nefarious criminals in a race against the clock. But the reality is that most behaviorists work on far broader subjects of far greater importance than just analyzing the mannerisms of a single criminal.
In fact, the original Behavior Science Unit was split into a number of different groups in to better reflect this division of duties, each with a particular analytic focus.

They work to take the uncertainty out of business for better organizational stability and repeatable processes. By their very nature of being unique and uncertain, projects require an element of risk. Project teams, therefore, approach risk in a different way than BAU teams.
Project managers seek to manage risk —both positive and negative —to get the best outcomes. That might include mitigating risk to try to limit the likelihood that it is going to happen, but it includes other risk management strategies as well. Projects can be usually be capitalized, and often BAU cannot be since you rely on operating expenses for your ongoing business as usual work.
In other words, the accounting treatments for projects and other tasks are different. Project funding often relates to bringing an asset into service—meaning the costs can be capitalized. In some cases, depending on where you are in the world and your local accounting regulations, you can even take project costs below the line. BAU costs are normally considered operating expenditures and are tracked in the profit and loss accounts of the company. Accounting rules vary by country, and even by organization where individual businesses have particular processes and ways of doing things.
