Where is trestles beach

Surfers are quite innovative, carrying their boards on bikes with racks or skateboards for a quick trip down to the beach. The most popular mode of transport to Trestles is by fat-tired E-bikes. On a big surf day, the Trestles can attract a large crowd, and surfers will have to share the waves with hundreds of others at the best breaks.

Why are the waves so good at Trestles? During a heavy rainstorm, the lagoon empties into the sea. Sediment flow from the creek creates sandbars. Below the surface, there are many cobblestones. The tide and the angle of the swell all affect the quality of waves. Portable bathrooms are available at the beach entrance near the trestle, but anything else you need will have to be carried in.

The hike or ride down the trail is defiantly worth the trip, and you will be rewarded by one of the last unspoiled except for the train track stretches of accessible Southern California coast. The original wooden Trestle bridge pictured above has been replaced with a seven million dollars concrete structure.

The new bridge will save about , dollars a year in upkeep. The bridge is still a trestle, just not made of wood. The Marine Corps still uses Middles for practicing amphibious landings. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round.

I did the extended loop that was suggested by one of the posters. It encircles the Wetlands. There is nothing particularly outstanding about the wetlands other than it is completely natural, but I always think it is more fun to do a loop rather than retrace your steps.

I also recommend just hiking up and down the beach. The whole trail and the wetlands being so natural is like stepping back in time. I really recommend extending your hike south along the paved path to the lifeguard station then down the bluff to the dirt road along some of the best surfing in the world.

Great if you want to watch the surfers or go for a walk on the beach, but not really as a. It's easy. You can loop around the bicycle trail or walk along the beach. Use Navigator in the AllTrails app and join the other outdoor explorers who have completed this trail.

Extra caution with young kids is needed, but the construction workers were careful around our group. One porta potty was available near the trestles but was quite stinky. So, if anyone heads this way soon, be aware of the construction. It did not negatively affect our visit because the beach, the trail and the views were incredibly beautiful despite the work being done. I appreciate your comment and insight so much! The only way to keep all the posts current is for nice people like you to add your personal experience and let everyone know what's going on.

I'm sure many other families will appreciate the time you took to add your detailed comment. Entertaining for the kids to watch the trains go by. Off-season it was pretty quiet on the beach. See the infamous San Onofre power plant and views of north San Diego to the south. San Mateo Creek provides more wildlife viewing. We liked walking over the concrete bridge and looking down into the creek. Better to go before you get here. Can feel pretty isolated.

Although, I did see a mom with her toddler there. San Clemente State Beach where Calafia dead ends into the beach is a better pick. You may need to pay for parking and I can see it being busy during high surf, surf competitions, and the summer months. Checklist: Bring sand toys.
