Getting hit with Comet is really irritating me. Oliver Queen You have failed this city! There isn't really an easier way for either of them. It's just luck on if you encounter him, and the Comet is just luck as well.
If you can beat the regular enemies, though, you get bank exp and AP. Just watch out for snort. Basically what I plan to do is to put them to sleep using Quina with the Blue magic, Sleep. The active party members should have the Insomiac ability turned on. This step should be obvious. Then Garnet summons Atomos. With at least 70 Amethysts in stock, this should do 9, damage to all of them.
Zidane should use this opportunity to steal Elixirs from them. The last remaining character slot remains open. Freya or Steiner would be good early on, as they can easily deal the 9, damage that is needed. Later on, this free character can be rotated to levelup the entire party. This is very similar to the commonly used method of defeating Yans, that I know of anyway.
But should it work, It will be much more consistent. Basically, the only untested parts of this method, which I am hoping you guys can answer are: 1. Will summoning Atomos cause the Yans to wake up. I have finished this game so many times but I have very rarely summoned the Eidolons.
And even if I do, it's mostly against major bosses so I do not really know the effect they have when used on Sleeping enemies. How long will the Yans stay asleep? Not that big an issue, but nice to know nonetheless.
